Lois H. McClane (85)

Crossville, Illinois
Birth: September 29, 1933
Death: May 27, 2019

Lois Helen McClane, 85, passed away May 27, 2019, at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, IL.  Born September 29, 1933, in Paris, IL, she was the daughter of Margaret and Walter Rose. The family moved to Mt Carmel, IL, where she grew up and attended school.

She married Billy McClane March 17, 1951, at the Mt Carmel Free Methodist Church. They took a honeymoon bus trip to St Louis courtesy of her Uncle and Aunt Jim and Mildred Wells. They celebrated their 68th Anniversary recently.

They moved to Sterling, CO, in the mid 1950s and after a short time in Marysville, OH, returned to Mt Carmel in 1964.  They moved to their 5-acre farm outside of Friendsville, IL, in 1981 after their children left on their own.  They enjoyed the country life with a bountiful vegetable garden and chickens and cows. They were always happy to share their bounty with others. They moved to Crossville, IL, in 2003 to be closer to their daughter Peggy and grandchildren.

Lois loved her family.  She was a wonderful and loving wife and mother. With her, it was always family first.  The holidays were especially special. Christmas and Thanksgiving where usually attended by as many as five generations present.

Lois was a devout Christian and instrumental in the church wherever she lived. She seemed to be the most comfortable with smaller congregations. She immensely enjoyed preparing and teaching Sunday school.  She was always singing or humming her favorite hymns.

She enjoyed camping, whether spending a weekend close to home, an annual trip to far off places like Disney World, or travelling with other family members. She looked forward to family reunions and trips to Lake of the Ozarks with her sisters.  She enjoyed swimming and made sure that her children learned at an early age.

She had an artistic flair and loved to draw.  Many family generations enjoy quilting and she was no exception. She always had a number of different quilts of various designs with quilt blocks from other family members in the works. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are proud owners of her handiwork.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her sister Linda Rose, son Frederick McClane, granddaughter Kelly Clark, grandsons Joshua Kuykendall and Skyler Kuykendall, and great grandson Cody Clark.

She is survived by Bill McClane, her husband of 68 years, son Michael McClane and wife Linda of Fernandina Beach, FL, daughter Margaret (Peggy) Kuykendall and husband Rick of Crossville, IL. Daughter in law Rebecca McClane of Patoka, IN. Sisters Marjorie Stoneberger and Barbara Rose of Mt Carmel, three grandsons, three great grandsons, and three great grand daughters.

    Dear family,
Deepest sympathy for the loss of dear Lois.
Lois was my sweet cousin that we always loved to visit on family vacations growing up. She always had a smile a hug and “Come on in I’ve got all kinds of stuff ready for you guys”… and especially wonderful homemade goodies for my dad she called Uncle “Bud”.💖
She was a devout Christian and was always ready to share her love of Jesus and the Bible.
I know The Good Lord opened wide the pearly gates when He called her home and told her “Well done my good and faithful servant enter now into My Kingdom ” 💖
May she rest in Heavenly Peace forever.
    Our prayers with much Love,
    Loranne and Dale Brown

We had the opportunity to meet Mr & Mrs. McClain at their Son’s wedding. Our first impression of both of them was a loving Mother and Father, very kind, down to earth and just plain nice folks. There was no doubt Mrs. McClain loved God and family. Both of them were an inspiration to Karen and I. It breaks our heart to hear of her passing but she is home with Jesus. No more suffering. Our thoughts and prayers go out for the family who we have known for a very long time. Both of them made us feel like we were one of the family. We are saddened that we are unable to attend the funeral due to health reasons, Mrs. McLain will be missed and will be remembered forever but we know she is present with her Lord.

  4. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your wife, mother, and grandmother. May your many precious memories of the times you spent together continue to bring you comfort. We can all look forward to the time promised by God when sadness, pain, and death will be gone forever. (Revelation 21:4)
