Jerry McGarvey, 85, of Grayville, Illinois, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born July 16, 1938, in Grayville, Illinois, the son of William Raymond McGarvey and Jewel (Simmons) McGarvey. He was married to Betty (Carr) McGarvey, on December 31, 1975, and she survives.

Jerry was a retired Pipefitter’s Local 136, where he was a member since 1967. He was an active member of Ridge Church in Grayville and he cherished his family. He was well-known in the Grayville area because of his love for riding his bicycle. In his earlier years, he enjoyed horses.

Survivors include is wife, Betty McGarvey of Grayville; sons Tony (Carol) McGarvey of Grayville, Travis (Katie) McGarvey of Dahlgren, Illinois; daughters Lana McGarvey of Evansville, Indiana, Kim McGarvey of Brown, Illinois; sister-in-law Marcia McGarvey; grandchildren Ryan McGarvey, Mike McGarvey, Wesley (Cassie) Fuller, Shelby (Drew) Frailey, Shawna (Harley) Fry, Jamie Barbre, Keith McGarvey, Matt McGarvey; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Tommy Lynn McGarvey; brothers Bill, Mike, and David McGarvey; and sister Sandra (Richard) Lee.

Jerry’s wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be 11:00 am, Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Ridge Church west of Grayville, Illinois. There will be no prior visitation, but those attending the service are welcome to linger at the church following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Grayville Senior Citizens.

    Jerry was my first cousin. He rode his bike by my house often and if i was outside we would chat a few minutes. If my memory serves me correct, he was the last first cousin the others have all passed on.
