Jerry Douglas Crawford, 75, of Carmi, Illinois, died Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born August 9, 1947, in Maunie, Illinois, the son of Augustus and Mildred (Carrell) Crawford. He was married to Rosalyn “Jeanie” (Lamp) Crawford on December 24, 1966, and she preceded him in death on December 25, 2021.
Jerry worked for many years as meat manager at Wag’s Grocery in Carmi, and he later served as chaplain at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville, Illinois. He served as minister of the McHenry Good News Chapel Church in Crossville; he also played his guitar as a member of the Good News Singers. Since 1989, the Good News Singers regularly played at seven different nursing homes in the Carmi area. He was a past member of the Enfield, Illinois, Lions Club, the Enfield Masonic Lodge, and past president of the White County Senior Citizens. He was a member of the VFW and during the Vietnam War, he served in the United States Army.
Survivors include son Jeffery Darin Crawford and his wife Kristi of Houston, Texas; daughter Dr. Bethany Lynn Dement and her husband William of St. Louis, Missouri; sisters Sherry Gail Phillips and her husband Bob, and Lana Kay Bakalik of Carmi; grandchildren Bridgett Duvall, Brooke Cook, Chloe Crawford, Nicholas Crawford, Gabriel Dement; great grandchildren Sean, Alexa, Atticus, and Sloan.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Jerry Douglas Crawford, Jr.; brothers Ed Crawford, Jack Crawford, Kenneth Crawford, Thomas Crawford; sisters Karen James and Joan Chapman.
Visitation is 5-7 pm, Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Funeral is 10 am, Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Cook Funeral Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in Bruce Chapel Cemetery near Carmi.
Lana & Sherry & (Bob) I am so sorry for the loss of your brother Jerry. He was a long time family friend to me, my sister & 2 brothers back in the 60’s. He will be truly missed. My thoughts & prayers are with you. Fly high & RIP Jerry. 10-06-22
Jerry was a great asset to the Senior Center, and all the places where he worked and preached. He will be missed. My prayers to the family, to which I am distantly related. Cindy
Jerry (our Pastor) who was a true friend. He enjoyed singing in the church,playing his guitar, and he was a EXCELLCENT preacher.
