David Eugene Yates, 73, of Carmi, Illinois, died Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born November 15, 1949, in Eldorado, Illinois, the son of Oscar Luther Yates and Mary (Yates) Yates. He was married to Connie (Johnson) Yates, and she survives.

David was a United States Army Veteran and was deployed to Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. David was an active member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Carmi and attending church was one of his favorite activities. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and visiting and telling stories over a cup of coffee.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Yates; son Michael Eugene Yates; step-son Michael Ray (Chasity) Bartley; daughters Michele (Ed) Newman, Theresa Ann (Don) Pollard; step-daughter Sharon Lynn Bartley; brother Bill (Erma) Yates, all of Carmi;

Grandchildren Shyanne Yates (Josh Goodwin), Alicia (Shaun) Heilzel, Brady Pollard, Bryan Pollard, Jarrett Pollard, Kelli Newman, Kristian Newman, Kurtis Newman, Lexxy Newman, Joshua David Weiss, Ashlee Nicole Clay, Elijah Logan-David Mougakos, Dakota Michael Bartley, Ian Ray Bartley;

Great-grandchildren Noah Goodwin, Mary Newman, Gabriel Garcia, Giovani Garcia, Kaiden Clay.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother-in-law Barb (Bill) Hodges.

Visitation and funeral are Monday, February 13, 2023, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, Illinois. Visitation is at noon and funeral is at 2 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi, Illinois.
